About us

Petra, originally from Germany, embarked on a journey to Kenya in 1987 and instantly fell in love with its breathtaking scenery and vibrant communities. A true polymath, Petra has mastered various skills and crafts including flying, tour guiding, safari driving, reflexology, candle making, jewelry crafting, and weaving. As well as having lead two childrens homes over the course of her life. She is also a devoted conservationist, having planted over thousands of trees together with her conservation and afforestation group, CAFF
around rural Kenya.
As a devoted mother of four children-Jessi, Sina, Yves, and Tessa-Petra’s nurturing spirit extends to her role as Director at Sandai. She oversees the weaving workshop, the Loom Café, and day-to-day operations, infusing every aspect with creativity
and meticulous care. Petra’s boundless energy and diverse talents enrich the experience of all who visit Sandai, ensuring they leave with cherished memories and a deeper connection to Kenya’s cultural tapestry.
